Tesla Motors Opens 3 New Stores in Malls?
Tesla Motors sells cars to the public and drivetrains to OEMs, but when you think of a car dealership, you think huge grounds with a multitude of cars to choose from and 1 large structure displaying 1 of each car with which to interact. But Tesla Motors continues implementing a unique approach for selling cars that has not been tried before. When I think of their approach it reminds me of another retailer that was the first to break ground with this approach, Apple Inc. When Apple first started opening stores, it felt odd that to see a manufacturer with their own stores in shopping malls. But that’s history and we now know that not only was it a good idea, it actually works.

Tesla Motors opened their Bellevue store on November 5th, and another in Chicago in Oakbrook Center on November 12th. Today is the grand opening of a their store in Newport Beach, California at the Fashion Island outdoor mall.
This approach surely will pay off with these locations being planted in locations with high foot traffic. Who knows, this may change the way other retailers sell cars in the future as well.
